Guest Presenter highlights Business Retention and Development via Enhanced Customer Satisfaction Levels

Zamil Industrial Investment Company (ZIIC), the international manufacturing and fabrication group focused on growth segments of the construction industry, held its second 'OneZday' quarterly management 'get together' forum recently. Over 100 managers and supervisors from the group's three sector businesses, Zamil Air Conditioners, Zamil Steel and Zamil Glass, attended the event at the Carlton Al Moaibed Hotel recently.

Characteristic of the series, the forum provides an opportunity for participants to gain an insight into 'hot topics' relevant to business and industry in the region. The theme of this event was sustaining and developing business through customer satisfaction and the methods by which this can be achieved at a corporate and manufacturing level.

"Our guest speaker was Mr. Bassem P. Fakhry from GE Energy Services. He shared his knowledge and expertise in the area of internal process improvements and responsiveness in order to achieve marked improvements in customer satisfaction levels, and his presentation explained how this is a key conduit to retaining and developing business opportunities in a competitive international environment," said Mr. Abdulla M. Al Zamil, ZIIC Chief Operating Officer, who opened the event.

The main focus of the presentation was on Six Sigma and its evolution at GE Energy since it was first launched as a corporate initiative in 1995. Bassem started with a brief introduction to the principles and methodology of Six Sigma, as well as the concepts of "6Sigma Quality" & Process Capability, illustrated by a steel manufacturing example. He then discussed the central uses and benefits of Six Sigma which GE learned and applied over the years ' as a process to drive continuous improvement and defect reduction, as an enabler of change and leadership development, and as a company-wide culture driven by greater focus on customers and making them more successful.

The OneZday event series serves several purposes: as a networking opportunity within ZIIC to meet, discuss and challenge each other; as a forum to share knowledge and insight into each of its business units; as well as a learning exercise in which the breadth of knowledge of the ZIIC team is expanded.

The attendees had a chance to participate directly through an interactive Question and Answer session with Mr. Fakhry. Audience feedback was overwhelmingly positive with comments confirming the informative, educational and immensely enjoyable nature of the event.
